Cathy Daugaard

My name is Cathy Daugaard and I help discerning Treasure Coast dog owners who need help with their dogs listening reliably at home and in public.

I want you to know that if your dog is misbehaving, it’s not your fault!  Maybe you’ve read the books and watched the YouTube videos, but it doesn’t help.  Much of the information out there is confusing, conflicting, and plain doesn’t work. That’s what I’m for!

I’ve spent 30 years training dogs and tried about every technique out there and I know what works and what doesn’t. Once I get the owner doing the right things, the dog usually starts improving immediately.  If you need guidance training your Service Dog or Therapy dog, raising that new puppy up right, or assistance with naughty behaviors—I can help.  My training methods and programs work and your dog can be a relaxed enjoyable companion.

I am a motivational trainer and specialize in puppies and unruly dogs. I use food, toys, praise, play, affection, body language and psychology to motivate and engage your pet, but I will also tell your dog “no,” insist on good behavior and correct when necessary. I follow the “LIMA” principle, that is, “Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive.” In other words, it’s not about dominance, and it’s not about an adversarial relationship with the dog, but eliciting his willing cooperation.

There is a huge need for this kind of training on the Treasure Coast. Many clients have dogs that are graduates of other programs, yet bring their dogs to Pet Etiquette for additional training, because we don’t just teach commands, we teach obedience.

I am certified through the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors, a Doggone Safe Presenter, and AKC Canine Good Citizen and Puppy S.T.A.R. Evaluator. I have worked hands on with some of the best trainers from America, Belgium, Germany, and South Africa.

During the past 30 years I have developed insights and abilities that enable me to successfully train pet dogs for the home as well as herding, obedience, tracking, protection, and narcotics detection. I remain committed to rescue and rehabilitation and I have trained both service and therapy dogs.

Because I am committed to providing the most effective, convenient solutions to my clients’ dog training needs, I avidly pursue ongoing continuing education and professional development and keep current on all industry literature.

Ready for the relief of having a well behaved dog?  I can’t wait to get started!

When not helping my clients enjoy easier lives with their canine companions, I enjoy the company of my German Shepherd, Nauti and my Labrador, Alex. Click to meet my dogs. You may get to meet them in person, as they often help train other pets.
